It is hard to believe that it has been three months since our last cruise in. We had a great cruise in season last year. Some of the highlights of the season are our first Chevy night sponsored by Harvey's Chevrolet. We also had a Ford night sponsored by Duncan Automotive Network where they came in full force supplying us with lots of great things to give away. The salute to the Veteran's night was a great night also. The best event of the year had to be the Salute to Public Service night. Which was also Kids night. All the local Fire Departments brought vehicles out to the event. The Police and Sheriff's Department also bought vehicles to the event. The Dare program was there also .The Kids got lots of nice prizes supplied by England Music of Radford. We all had a great time that night. Our last few big events got canceled do to bad Weather. That brings me to our final event of the year the Christmas Party that once again was held at the Federal Order Of Police building. The Wilderness Inn catered the event lots of food, music, and fun. The toys we collected once again went to the Knights of Columbus and were greatly appreciated. I gave out the special awards and also a special award to Lou and Allen Sutphin for all the hard work they have done the past few years. They are going to take a break next year a well disserved one I must say. Which leads me to the up coming year. The first two meetings this year has dealt with the up coming schedule. We on the events committee came up with what I think are a great schedule for this year, which is enclosed in this newsletter. The other big news is the event in June. The event has been named The New River Valley Autofest. It will be a three-day event at The New River Valley Fair Grounds, which will consist of a Swap meet, Car Corral, and a Car Show. This is going to be a big event for us. This is where you the members come in. We are going to need lots of help this year to make all of these events successful .The more you help this club the more we grow. I am looking forward to this up coming year so lets move out this cold weather and bring on the sun, fun, and Hot Cars. Your President Timmy Bishop -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a brief summary from last year's meetings. The early meetings of the year were about trying to increase awareness about the club, the clubs events for the 2002-year, and also increase attendance to the meetings. In May we followed up on suggestions about a survey sheet to the members, to change the night of the meetings. We reviewed the survey in Junes meeting and put the issue up for a vote. The majority rule was to keep the night the same, which is the first Tuesday of the month at Seven pm at the F.O.P building in Radford. The other issue that seemed to stir much debate was to change the By-Laws, and increase the amount of meetings members have to attend a year. We tabled it until the next meeting. In the July meeting we reopened the issue that was tabled at the last meeting and all members at the meeting agreed to keep it as it is in the By-Laws. The rest of the meeting was about the up coming "Bridge Cruise" in August and the cookout at Ed and Kathy McPeaks house July 20th. The August meeting we talked about the upcoming events. Like the "Salute to Public Service" event, and the "Bridge Cruise". Tim brought up that he would like the members to start thinking about a Car Show for next year. A committee was formed to look at our options. One option was to help the Radford Fire department with maybe expanding their show. The September meeting was brought to order and the floor was opened to the Car Show committee. The members of the committee met with the Fire Department leaders and the report back was that they were fairly content with the way their show was now. We understand there position and we will continue to support there event in anyway we can. The other option was to do an event on our own and connect it with an event at the Glencoe Museum on a Friday night having a cruise in at the same time they were having the Chairman of the Board band play a concert. In the October meeting Tim had Marceline Hunter speak to the members about the status of their event. She informed us that the Glencoe committee had split up but that we could still have the event because she still had the band booked. The only down fall was that we would have to pay for the event, and the cost would be in the neighborhood of $3500.00 needless to say the members decided to go another direction. The other problem we were running into was getting support for another show at the park. The more favorable option was to have a Car Show and a Swap meet. The next obstacle was to find a location. A motion was made and was seconded to have the term of the President to be changed from one year to two. The issue was put up for a vote and passed by a majority vote. The November meeting dealt with more of the same Jim Peters had spoken with the community college about using their grounds. It was agreed by the members there that to make this event successful we would need to extend it and charge an admissions price. Tim brought up the use of the Fairgrounds in Dublin. Jim Peters said he new someone he could talk to. We also talked about the Christmas party and also decided not to have a meeting in December. Tim asked that the events committee to meet thru November and get the events schedule ready for next year. The next meeting we had was in January. We had a guest speaker at the meeting. Dennis Ritter spoke to us about the Shrines Children's hospital and the great work that they do, and how we might be able to help. At this time Tim opened the floor to Jim Peters. He reported to us that he had secured the Fairgrounds for us in June 20,21,22 for our event. We then asked for volunteers to help organize this event and we had a good response. We ask that these members meet thru January to develop all aspects of this event. A motion was made and seconded that we make Jim Peters the Chairman of the event. A vote was then taken and the motion was passed by a majority vote. The events committee also presented the new schedule to the members at the meeting. The next meeting was in February. The first order of business was to fill our Secretary position. Bobby Williams had asked to step down due to personal reasons. Tim made the statement that we would like to thank Bobby for all the hard work she had done and everybody else agreed. Tim made a motion that we elect Mitzi Barnett to the position. The motion was seconded and a vote followed. It passed with a majority vote. We also welcomed two new members, Terri and Ray UnFug. Tim then opened the floor to Jim Peters to talk about our event. He showed us a map of the venue and how the event will be laid out. We then passed out an application for the event to get the members approval. Also to get suggestions or any changes we need to make. After a few changes the members approved the application. Tim then called out the classes for the Car Show event that will be held on Saturday June 21 and asked for any suggestions. The members then discussed the event and its format an agreement was reached and then a vote was taken to approve it. Majority vote was received and it passed. Tim then asks that Committee members continue to meet to get better organized. The next meeting is March 4 2003 at 7pm at the F.O.P building in Radford.
